West Terre Haute

More than 2,400 West Terre Haute, Indiana, residents lack access to basic health care. That number is only expected to increase in the coming years. The poverty rate in the area is 28 percent and 15.5 percent of residents are uninsured. Sister Dorothy Rasche, SP, director of the Sisters of Providence Connecting Link ministry in West Terre Haute, noticed the need among her neighbors. “A convenient health care clinic/pharmacy is just one more service that is needed in a community for the community to thrive, ” states Sister Dorothy. Valley Professionals agreed to work with Connecting Link and the local community to champion the building of a $1.2 million health clinic and pharmacy in West Terre Haute.

“The health outcomes of West Terre Haute and surrounding areas are underserved with very limited access to options supporting positive individual and community health, prevention, and well-being,” states Chief Executive Officer Terry Warren. “Challenges of poverty, unemployment, and uninsured rates pose substantial barriers in obtaining health care services. The investment of a clinic will provide affordable, long-lasting, and positive transformation within the community, supporting the overall health of its individuals and families.”

The delivery of integrated health care services will improve positive health outcomes, allowing the prevention of illnesses and chronic diseases, as well as health management and behavioral services for whole-person care. Valley Professionals believes the investment in West Terre Haute will strengthen the community’s development, longevity, and health of its residents, demonstrating a proactive focus on prevention within the community. Integrated services aim to improve positive outcomes and dissolve barriers in the community such as transportation, access, affordability, and additional resources.

Property has been obtained at the corner of National Avenue and South 6th Street through a generous donation. The proposed 5,000 square-foot clinic will offer primary medical care, behavioral health care, and pharmacy services with seven exam rooms, three offices, a lobby, a break room, and a pharmacy with a drive-thru window.
