Protect Yourself Against Flu

Valley Professionals is here to remind you that it is time to get your annual flu vaccination!

Here is some helpful information we gathered from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about why and when to get a flu vaccination:

Why should I get a flu shot?

  • Vaccination has been shown to have many benefits including reducing the risk of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and even the risk of flu-related death in children.
  • If you catch the flu, fighting it weakens your immune system. A weak immune system can increase your risk of more serious diseases.

When do I get a flu shot?

  • You should get a flu shot before the virus begins spreading in your community, this is because it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against flu.
  • Make plans to get vaccinated early in fall, before flu season begins. Getting vaccinated early (for example, in July or August) is likely to be associated with reduced protection against flu infection later in the flu season.
  • Children who need two doses of vaccine to be protected should start the vaccination process sooner, because the two doses must be given at least four weeks apart.
