The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently recognized 24 physicians and clinical practices as the 2023 Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Champions. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke in adults in the United States. Most adults diagnosed with hypertension do not have their condition under control.
The Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Challenge is a program that recognizes clinicians, practices, and health systems that achieve hypertension control rates of at least 80%. Meaning they have successfully improved hypertension control among their patients. Valley Professionals Cayuga, Clinton, Crawfordsville, and South Terre Haute are four of 24 healthcare practices recognized in 2023.
“The CDC reports that every 34 seconds someone with cardiovascular disease dies in the U.S. We are proud of our staff in helping to reduce these deaths in the Wabash Valley. This is not an easy task and to have four of our locations recognized this year is phenomenal!”, said Stephanie Jeffrey, Vice President and Chief Quality Officer.
Million Hearts® is a national initiative, co-led by CDC and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2027. Learn more about Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Champions.
