The theme of Women’s Health Week 2023 is “Women’s Health, Whole Health: Prevention, Care, and Wellbeing.” The purpose of this week is to highlight the importance of women and girls taking care of their whole selves and making their health a priority. It is easy for women to prioritize the health and well-being of their loved ones first, often neglecting the importance of caring for themselves.
Women’s Health Week brings to light the need for women to recognize the importance of taking care of both their physical and mental health. It is also a great time for family and friends as well as the local and national governments to take action to support women and help them to achieve the best health possible.
Suggestions for achieving a healthier future for all girls and women:
- Schedule an annual physical with your Primary Care Provider. Discuss preventative measures (determined by age) such as mammograms, pap smears, bone density scans, heart scans or stress tests, lab studies such as cholesterol levels, and up-to-date immunizations.
- Analyze your diet! Check eating habits to make certain you are getting the necessary nutrients to maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight.
- Get moving! Walk with a friend, join a gym or your local Y. Consider dancing, swimming, use stairs instead of elevators, consider YOGA or TAI CHI.
- Prioritize your mental health and learn how to cope with stress, long-term stress, and lack of sleep; all of which can lead to serious physical and mental health issues.
We now recognize how good mental health is essential to overall well-being. Contact your Primary Care Physician today to start the journey to a happier healthier you!
