Move More Month

When it comes to exercise, there can be so many barriers. Not enough time, not the right equipment, not enough motivation, the list could go on! For National Move More Month, we have thought about some practical tips to find ways to squeeze more movement into your daily rhythms!

1. Park your car in the farthest spot from the entrance to where you are going. This is a great way to add steps to your day without taking up too much of your time.

2. A little bit goes a long way! You don’t have to exercise for 1 hour at a time to get the benefit. Consider setting a timer for 1 minute and see how many laps of your office space or home you can make. Slowly increase the timer amount as tolerated to your day. An excellent goal of 30 minutes (total) per day of exercise 3-5 days per week would be considered ideal by medical professionals.

3. Does your office have stairs? Going up and down flights of stairs when the opportunity presents itself can increase your heart rate!

4. Stand up at least once every hour. Thanks to newer technology like Apple Watches, many people are already doing this!

5. There are several ways to utilize “free” workout programs from anywhere! Many online platforms such as YouTube and Peloton both have free fitness classes to check out.

6. Grab a friend and walk on lunch break. Increase the workload by doing arm circles as you walk!

7. There are treadmills designed for desks and under-desk bicycle pedals to help move more while at work!

The biggest thing is that you do SOMETHING! Start small, do what you enjoy, and reap the rewards in your physical and mental well-being!
