How Should You Clean Your Child’s Teeth after Candy?
Here’ s how to help your child maintain a healthy smile after enjoying candy.
- Rinse with water- After eating candy, have your child rinse their mouth with water. This simple step can wash away some of the sugar and debris.
- Wait to Brush- Wait for about 30 minutes to an hour before brushing your child’s teeth. This give saliva time to neutralize the acids and thus protects the enamel.
- Use Toothpaste- When it is time to brush, make sure your child uses toothpaste. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and brush thoroughly.
- Brush All Surfaces- Ensure your child brushes all tooth surfaces: fronts, backs and all the chewing areas of the teeth. Do NOT forget the tongue!
- A Flossing Routine- Making flossing a part of your child’s daily routine to remove candy particles from between teeth and around the gumline.
- Mouthwash- Mouthwash can further reduce cavity risk and keep their breath fresh!
Remember, the key is moderation when it comes to candy. Enjoying treats in moderation & following a consistent oral hygiene routine will help keep your child’s teeth healthy & cavity free.
Enjoy Candy Time 🙂
